FAQs regardíng the Sleep Phase Alarm Clock

How does the Sleeptracker® work?
SLEEPTRACKER® monitors uninterrupted signals from your body that indicate how DEEP you are asleep.

What is an “almost-awake” moment?
In the third and final phase of your sleep, the REM phases are longer than the DELTA phases. At certain times you are close to waking up.

How many "almost-awake" moments occur with most people in a given night?
There is actually no average, because everybody sleeps differently. Stress, age, diet and medication change the sleep pattern. Use Sleeptracker to monitor your sleep pattern and you will see how many "almost-awake moments" you go through in one relaxing night.

How can I monitor my sleep pattern with Sleeptracker®?
You can review "almost-awake" moments and the average times between them in the "Data Review Mode."

How is my sleep data influenced if I get up in the night to use the toilet or to check on something?
To check your sleep data, you press the MODE key until you get DATA REPORT. On the screen is "Data 1" and the time up to your first "almost-awake" moment. Use the left key to scroll through all your "almost-awake" times ("Data 2", "Data 3", etc.). At the end of this information, the SLEEPTRACKER® displays the "Data A" value, which stands for "Data Average": the average period of time between your "almost-awake" moments. Therefore, if you sleep for eight hours and have eight "almost-awake" moments during this period of time, the value of "Data A" is 1 hour.
If a clear spike indicates an "almost-awake" moment, then check what could be the cause of this in the previous day. Triggers could be stress, alcohol or a poor diet.

What exactly does Sleeptracker® monitor?
Because many people often wake up or get up during the night, Sleeptracker® only measures when they are actually ASLEEP. Its internal sensors can detect if they get up and move. This means that, if they get up at 02:00, and lie down again at 03:00, the Sleeptracker indicates a single "almost-awake" moment that lasts from 02:00 to 03:00.

It is the same when they turn over and toss around sleeplessly, the Sleeptracker® only indicates one single phase. It's only when they first actually fall asleep that the Sleeptracker® changes to "Data acquisition mode" and the regular recording starts.  SLEEPTRACKER® recognises short periods of movement, which are characteristic of "almost-awake" moments or "shallow" stages of sleep.

You can review these "almost-awake" moments the next day by pressing MODE and changing to DATA REVIEW. Sleeptracker shows one time frame series that represents the time between the "almost-awake" moments. ('Data 1', 'Data 2', etc.). 'Data A' is at the end (A for 'average') and correlates the average time between "almost-awake" moments.

What does DATA A mean?
"Data A" is the average time between your "almost-awake" moments. "Data A" enables you to check the quality of your sleep. If you usually go to sleep and get up at the same time, your "Data A" values are probably also consistent.

Check your "Data A" over 7-10 nights, in order to establish your personal 'baseline'. If your sleep is consistent, the A-value fluctuates only slightly from one night to the next. Should "Data A" deviate substantially from your normal baseline, as a rule this has its cause in your lifestyle.

Does Sleeptracker® support a 24-hour based time structure?
Yes, you can switch to a 24-hour time structure in the alarm mode.

How tightly should I wear the SLEEPTRACKER® around my wrist?
You should wear the Sleeptracker® exactly as you would wear a normal watch. There should be enough contact with your wrist: it should not so loose that it moves, but not so tight that it cuts into the wrist.

Will Sleeptracker® help me sleep better?
No. Sleeptracker® is used to record your sleep pattern, and the test works as consistently as you sleep. Sleeptracker® unfortunately CANNOT remove the causes of a poor sleep process or sleep disturbances. In such cases, consultation with a doctor is necessary.

Is Sleeptracker® suitable for the treatment of sleep disturbances?
Sleeptracker® is not a medical device and therefore should not be used for the treatment of sleep disturbances. If you feel that you suffer from sleep disturbances, please get professional medical treatment.

Can I use Sleeptracker® to reduce my need for sleep?
No, you should NOT use Sleeptracker® to attempt to reduce the duration of your sleep. Doctors recommend keeping to an average of 8 hours of sleep per night.

How long do the batteries in the Sleeptracker® last?
The lifespan of the batteries depends on how often you use the GLO function. With normal use, the batteries should last at least 12 months.

What battery size goes into the Sleeptracker®?
SLEEPTRACKER® requires a CR 2032 battery. When the battery needs to be changed, we recommend getting this done by a professional (a watchmaker). Incorrect insertion of the battery can damage the watch and nullify the manufacturer's warranty.
